It’s time for another short update on what has been going on at Pioneer79 Swimming Club in recent days.

As eluded to in my previous statement, Swim England published “Returning to the Pool” guidance last week. Our Director of Swimming, coaches and committee members took time to analyse the guidelines before discussing them during a meeting on Thursday (18 June) evening, which we will brief you on in the coming days. Suffice to say, progress was made, and action plan templates have been prepared.

One of Swim England’s recommendations is to establish a COVID-19 Officer at the club; therefore I am reaching out to interested parties within Pioneer79’s membership.

We will outline the role and responsibilities later today (Monday 22 June). Please get in touch if you don’t receive my email and would like to know more, and please register your interest by Sunday 28 June.

In other news, Amelia Moss became a three-time Strava Champion this week, trouncing her Pioneer79 peers by registering more than ten hours of activity. It’s another astonishing performance, and a strong benchmark for the next seven days.

On Tuesday (16 June), Mike Robinson hosted a second Mobility and Stability training session – we had another great turnout – and two days later we had an audience with BBC Sport’s “voice of swimming” Andy Jameson (Thursday 18 June), who provided a valuable insight into his own swimming career, his experiences of being a dad to two swimmers and the ways in which he supports them. It was great to see other clubs that share our swimming facilities joining the discussion, and I’m sure all those who participated would agree that Andy shared some interesting thoughts and experiences.

Finally, I want to reiterate that Pioneer79 Swimming Club will not profit from the COVID-19 crisis and that any additional monies after core staff have been paid will be returned to the membership in the form of further fee reductions or a hardship fund.

Of course, the voluntary fee reduction (50 per cent of the normal monthly fee) remains open, but to all those who continue to pay their normal rates, a big thanks.
