Will Hunt is determined to begin his push for championship glory on the winners’ rostrum in the opening round of the COVID-19-delayed Radical SR1 Cup at Snetterton (Saturday 4 July).
The West Sussex driver is entering the final phase of a three-year plan to win the SR1 Cup title, and he has left no stone unturned since the end of the 2019 season, when his bid was derailed by a series of unforeseeable mechanical failures.
Fitter and leaner than ever before, Hunt has taken significant strides forward over the winter and during lockdown, thanks to a tailored fitness and weight-loss programme, designed by professional Sports Conditioning Coach, Tom Archer, of Performance Elite.
In fact, Hunt has even been exposed to more unorthodox training methods, taking up juggling in an attempt to improve his hand-eye coordination in time for the 2020 Radical SR1 season, which begins with a pair of 20-minute races on the Snetterton ‘200’ circuit in East Anglia (4 July).
During the extended off-season, Hunt received some notable endorsements; he was one of only a few to be chosen for the Motorsport UK Academy Squad driver development programme, before being selected for the 2020 Demon Tweeks Sponsorship Scheme.
More potentially lucrative and profile-boosting partnerships are in the pipeline and his search for sponsors is ongoing, but Hunt is now purely focused on his return to the racetrack, saying: “It’s a full-system reset – we’ve basically pressed ‘Control-Alt-Delete’ on last year – but my goals remain the same and I still want to win the 2020 Radical SR1 Cup title. I feel more confident than ever because we’re bringing a very exciting package into the new season and I’m sure I will be the best prepared driver on the grid.
“I went straight into the gym with my Sports Conditioning Coach, Tom Archer, the day after the 2019 season finale, so I’m in much better shape all-round and my motivation has increased massively. It would be foolish to underestimate the competition, especially as many of my biggest rivals for wins and podiums are also returning. It’s still a long season and consistency wins titles, but podiums are always my minimum expectation and they should come if I perform at my best.”
