DW Racing has set a course for Abu Dhabi as it prepares to field four cars in the 2024 Radical World Finals at Yas Marina Circuit (7-10 November).

The Peterborough, UK-based team will run a pair of Radical SR10 XXRs for 2024 Hagerty Radical Cup UK Pro SR3 Vice-Champion Oscar Joyce and racing returnee David Evans, alongside an SR8 RS for Saudi Arabia’s Captain Saeed Al-Mouri and an SR3 XXR for Andy Lowe.

Joyce “caught the racing bug” in 2018 when he joined Premium Karting to take on a multi-pronged campaign in the Little Green Man Series and British Kart Championships, as well as events in Europe.

The “professional doodler” took his first steps in car racing in the 2023 Radical Cup UK’s SR1 division but this year graduated to a more powerful SR3 XXR as part of a unique, trailblazing programme.

London-based graffiti artists Solo One, OG Mear and D_a_n_e_ism live artworked Joyce’s DW Racing-prepared Radical, also creating a unique selection of body parts and Arai race helmets that were raffled trackside and online to raise money for local charities associated with the painters, including Stockwell Hall of Fame and Dwaynamics ABC.

It was a successful campaign, and the same can be said of Joyce’s on-track exploits, as the Richmond-domiciled driver established himself as a regular podium contender to ultimately finish runner-up in the definitive Pro SR3 Championship.

The 19-year-old will consequently carry momentum to the United Arab Emirates, where he will bid for Platinum class glory with a turbocharged SR10 XXR and a special World Finals helmet, designed by Solo One to accentuate Yas Marina’s iconic ambience.

Joyce said: “I’m excited to be representing DW Racing in the 2024 Radical World Finals at Yas Marina Circuit, and I’m going there to win. I believe I can carry the form I had in the final round of the Hagerty Radical Cup UK at Brands Hatch to Abu Dhabi, where I’ll be methodical in my approach to learning the SR10 XXR and the track.

“I’ve driven the car on a simulator many times and I suspect I will have to adapt my driving style to the extra power and weight, and to manage the tyres over the course of a race distance. I’ve found that the characteristics of each Radical car follow one another, so my experiences with both the SR1 and SR3 XXR should ease the transition to the SR10.”

Joyce added: “What’s more, graffiti artist Solo One has produced a special World Finals helmet and I’m super excited about showcasing it. He has an existing connection with Yas Marina Circuit, having produced a mural in a tunnel that runs underneath the track. He’s very familiar with the venue and this latest helmet design has been created with the track and lighting conditions in mind.

“There are a lot of reasons to be excited. Visiting Yas Marina and participating in the Radical World Finals is enough, but I’ve been told over and over that the circuit will be unbelievable in an aero car like the SR10. I’m sure it’ll be an unforgettable experience, and a massive thanks goes to DW Racing and Radical for giving me this opportunity.”

Captain Saeed Al-Mouri is widely considered as one of the most versatile racing drivers in the Middle East, having triumphed in a broad range of motorsport disciplines, from circuit racing and drifting, to hill climbs and rallying.

He made his competitive debut in Autocross, but campaigns in Formula BMW single-seaters, Lamborghini Super Leggera Saudi Arabia and a successful bid for the 2011 Red Bull Car Park Drift Championship followed.

However, Radical Sportscars titles achieved in 2010 and 2011 served as a springboard into endurance sportscar racing, and he added consecutive CREVENTIC 24H Dubai class victories to his résumé during the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

Having been on the sidelines in 2024, the Hankook Racing Saudi Arabia-backed 39-year-old from Riyadh is naturally excited about the prospect of getting back behind the wheel in a competitive environment.

Al-Mouri said: “I haven’t competed at all this year and it will be interesting to see how I perform in the Radical World Finals at Yas Marina Circuit. I have always wanted to race in a World Finals event so it was impossible to turn down this opportunity with DW Racing.

“The plan is to learn in free practice and then push on in qualifying and the races. I don’t have any specific objectives and I will simply do my best to finish in a good condition. However, while it’s important to enjoy the experience, I automatically shift to fight mode when I put my helmet on and I will be pushing for strong results.”

Returning to the Radical family after an eight-year hiatus from motor racing is Pangbourne, Berkshire-domiciled Evans.

The 65-year-old – a retired entrepreneur who launched and ran businesses in the electronics industry – was a “schoolboy karter” who stopped competing due to a lack of funding after graduating from the University of Loughborough.

It was in 2012 that he purchased his first Radical, spending two seasons in the UK before going overseas for sporadic appearances at historic European racetracks like Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and ultra-modern Middle-Eastern venues like Yas Marina.

In fact, Evans’ racing concluded with the 2015-16 Gulf Radical Cup, when he was the recipient of the Spirit of Radical Award for sportsmanship, and it was only in 2023 that he returned to the cockpit of a sports-prototype racer.

He has since completed a handful of tests in the SR10 XXR he will race for “pure enjoyment” in the 2024 Radical World Finals at the home of the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Evans said: “I haven’t raced in eight years due to business and family commitments, so the prospect of competing in the 2024 Radical World Finals at Yas Marina Circuit is very exciting.

“The SR10 is immensely quick – it shocked me, in spite of all of my SR3 experience – and I have loved testing the car. I’m entering the World Finals because it’s a pleasurable thing to do, but I’m a competitive person and won’t be going all the way to Abu Dhabi for a Sunday drive.”

Lowe reunited with DW Racing for the penultimate round of the 2024 Radical Cup UK on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit (27-28 July), where he achieved top six class finishes against a field of full-season drivers following a nine-month break from competition.

However, the Wolverhampton racer then took significant strides with his new SR3 XXR during a confidence-inspiring outing in the opening round of the 2024 Gulf Radical Cup (26-27 October) at Dubai Autodrome, getting his eye in for the World Finals.

“I’m feeling extremely excited about the 2024 Radical World Finals at Yas Marina Circuit,” said Lowe. “My recent outing in Round 1 of the Gulf Radical Cup at Dubai Autodrome was great preparation, as it enabled me to get acquainted with my new SR3 XXR, with the support of DW Racing.

“There’s still room for improvement, but we have another six hours of testing available to us. I’m feeling very privileged to be taking part in the Radical World Finals and I’m excited about the prospect of a top ten finish. It’s a bucket list event, especially as I’ve never driven the full Yas Marina grand prix circuit or under lights before!”
