Will Hunt primed for Nürburgring return after extending Sussex Autos partnership

The Sussex Autos-backed Will Hunt is set to return to the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) for the 2024 edition of the ROWE 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen (3 August), this time with an Adrenalin Motorsport-run BMW M240i Racing Cup car.

Hunt’s career began with four years in the Radical SR1 Cup, in which he accrued the 2018 ‘Rookie Cup’, seven race victories and 20 podium finishes over the course of 41 races.

During his final full season in 2021, he challenged for championship honours, leading the most laps and achieving more wins than all of his opponents but finishing runner-up after notching up a DNF in the critical latter stages of what was a hard-fought campaign.

Since then, he has completed the Motorsport UK Academy ‘Squad’ and ‘Team UK Futures’ programmes, as well as the governing body’s Certificate in Coaching Motorsport.

As a qualified Association of Racing Driver Schools (ARDS) Instructor, Hunt is thriving as a driver coach for young and aspiring racers, a brand ambassador for high-end automotive manufacturers, and as a Race Instructor at Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Thruxton.

However, in 2023, Hunt was able to return to competition through a partnership with Hailsham-based automotive transmission parts distributors and Torque Converter remanufacturers, Sussex Autos.

The West Sussex-based racing driver entered selected rounds of the NLS, sharing an Adrenalin Motorsport BMW 330i production touring car with ex-FIA Lotus Cup Europe Champion and fellow Motorsport UK Academy alumni Toby Goodman.

He landed a podium on his first ever competitive outing on the notorious Nürburgring Nordschleife and went on to contest subsequent NLS events, including the series’ blue riband 12h Nürburgring.

The successes have naturally led to an extension of the Hunt-Sussex Autos partnership, and a late entry to the 2024 edition of the NLS ROWE 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen has now been secured.

Hunt rejoins the Adrenalin Motorsport fold but will compete at a higher level, in a more competitive class with the German team’s #651 BMW M240i Racing Cup car.

“I’m extremely grateful for Sussex Autos’ continued support, which is enabling me to return to the Nürburgring for a second consecutive year,” said Hunt. “Sussex Autos and I have already achieved a lot together since launching our partnership in 2023, and that includes a sensational podium result on my debut at ‘The Ring’. We had some misfortune on the track along the way, but the big takeaway is the knowledge that we have the potential to compete at the top.

“There will be some learning to do, as I’m racing a completely new and unfamiliar car. The BMW M240i Racing Cup is closer to what I’m used to than the BMW 330i I drove in 2023, and the fact it’s much quicker and part of a more competitive class makes this coming weekend all the more exciting. There will be limited time to get acquainted with the car and re-learn the Nordschleife, but I’m delighted to be back with Adrenalin Motorsport and know I’ll receive the best possible support.”
