Will Hunt has been selected for the prestigious Motorsport UK Academy Squad – a world-class development programme that identifies, nurtures and supports young, talented racing drivers who demonstrate exceptional potential.
Hunt, aged 22 from Brighton in West Sussex, is about to embark on his third season in the Radical SR1 Cup, and he’s squarely focused on winning the 2020 title with the view of progressing his career in 2021 and beyond.
Motorsport UK’s 24-month ‘Squad’ programme consists of several events each year, providing individuals with a supportive, high performance environment and an opportunity to progress and develop, both personally and professionally, within the high-octane world of motorsport.
Highly experienced Academy coaches deliver the programme, offering candidates exclusive industry insight, specialist workshops, educational sessions and bespoke events designed to nurture well-rounded racing drivers.
This nomination puts Hunt on the pathway to the pinnacle of the Motorsport UK Academy pyramid, Team UK, which is a national squad of elite drivers from a variety of disciplines, hand-picked to receive bespoke one-on-one performance management as they progress towards the sport’s top tiers. Drivers work with a Motorsport UK Qualified Performance Manager who provides ongoing coaching, support, advice and guidance. Each driver’s programme is tailored to their individual needs and requirements using a scientific approach to talent development.
“I’m ecstatic to have been accepted for the Motorsport UK Academy Squad,” said Hunt. “To be recognised for my achievements and my ambitions going forward is a great feeling and I can’t wait to get working with the team. Now is not the time to get complacent as this is only the beginning of my career, and I will continue to work with determination and true grit both on and off the track in the hope that this will show when the lights go out for Round 1 of the 2020 Radical SR1 Cup at Oulton Park.”
Katie Baldwin, Competitors Pathway Manager at Motorsport UK said, “I would like to congratulate Will on his selection into the Motorsport UK Academy ‘Squad’ programme. The selected drivers have already shown great potential to have been considered for this programme but now the hard work begins! The programme focusses on developing drivers both on and off the track and will require commitment, determination and ambition in order to get the most out of the opportunities. At the end of the programme the drivers will leave with the tools and skills required to progress to the highest level and a vast network of contacts. The Academy team and I look forward to working with Will over the course of the two-year programme.”
