Sussex racing driver Will Hunt taking “Radical new approach” to Oulton Park

A pragmatic Will Hunt is managing his hopes and expectations for Rounds 3 and 4 of the 2020 Radical SR1 Cup at Oulton Park in the North West of England (Saturday 1 August).
The SR1 Cup holds a coveted spot on the British GT Championship support bill, providing Hunt with a mouth-watering opportunity to showcase his talents in front of high-profile automotive manufacturers and racing teams, and increase exposure for each one of his sponsors and partners.
However, a topsy-turvy outing at Snetterton (4 July), where he notched up a DNF and a fifth-place result, has prompted the Sussex-based driver to re-evaluate his approach to racing.
A concerted effort to dissect and reflect on events at Snetterton with professional driver coach Charlie Hollings and his Motorsport UK Academy Squad mentor highlighted a need to switch from a ‘win at all costs’ attitude to a more controlled and consistent ‘points win prizes’ approach.
Consequently, Hunt has put all thoughts about winning the championship out of his mind and will instead focus on maximising his individual performances and collecting points one race at a time, starting at Oulton Park in the Cheshire countryside.
“To race at Oulton Park alongside the British GT Championship is always exciting and it’s my personal highlight of the season,” said Hunt. “Oulton Park is undoubtedly my favourite circuit, as its tight, twisty and bumpy layout really tests drivers and I’ve always gone well there, but it’s also a privilege to share a platform with a high-profile championship like British GT.
“I see this weekend as an opportunity to show automotive manufacturers and established race teams what I can do, but I go into it with a new and improved attitude. I delved deep into how the Snetterton round panned out with the help of Charlie (Hollings) and my Motorsport UK mentor, and I also enhanced my focus with my Sports Conditioning Coach Tom (Archer). I realise chasing race wins week-in-week-out can be counterproductive. As a result, I have reined in my own expectations and I’ll be purely focused on consistently bagging points for the rest of the season. I have faith in my ability and I’m confident this new approach will yield results.”
