Will Hunt has his sights set on the top step of the winners’ rostrum heading into the penultimate round of the 2019 Radical SR1 Cup at Donington Park (20-21 September).
The Brighton, West Sussex racer has established himself as a prolific podium finisher in what is only his second full-time car racing campaign but is keen to break his race wins duck before season’s end.
Hunt started with a pair of top five finishes at Oulton Park during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend but returned to the podium at Cadwell Park, where he also threatened for victory, before securing yet more silverware on the world-famous Brands Hatch circuit in Kent.
He appeared to have a firm grip on second in the Drivers’ Championship until an unfortunate and costly July weekend at Snetterton, where he suffered a mechanical DNF and fell back to third in the standings.
However, the 22-year old Scorpio Motorsport driver has been training hard during the two-month summer hiatus, leaving no stone unturned to ensure he’s capable of maximising the final two rounds of the season, starting with Donington Park.
“The summer break seems to have dragged and I can’t wait to get back in the car, but I’ve used my time away from the racetrack well, training hard to make sure I’m fully prepared for the next round of the season at Donington Park,” said Hunt. “I’m third in the standings and only four points behind the guy in second place after a disappointing weekend at Snetterton, but the misfortune has only made us more motivated to chase it back.
“As a team, we’re fully committed to getting second in the championship, because that’s the result we deserve. In fact, I’ll be putting all my cards on the table and shooting for the top step of the podium at Donington Park. We’ve been capable of winning in previous rounds, but I’m now in the best physical and mental shape of my life and that should make all the difference.”
