For Will Hunt, the priority is to consolidate his championship lead on the Radical SR1 Cup’s return to Snetterton (Saturday 3 July).
The Motorsport UK Team UK Futures driver entered his fourth SR1 Cup season with designs on the outright title and he duly owned the top step of the podium in the first four races on the Snetterton ‘300’ and Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuits.
This weekend, the 2021 Radical SR1 Cup reaches its mid-point following a two-month hiatus, but Hunt’s approach and objectives remains unchanged, as the Albourne-domiciled racer is simply concerned with performing solidly and consistently to protect his 28-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship.
The extended mid-season break provided Hunt with an opportunity to switch off from racing and take some respite from his demanding training regime, but a day of testing on the full Silverstone Grand Prix circuit enabled him to get back in the zone while perfecting new driving skills and techniques.
As a result, Hunt is confident that the momentum is with him and that he will be one of the form drivers at Snetterton, saying: “It’s unusual to race at the same track twice in one season, but we were really strong in the opening round of the 2021 Radical SR1 Cup at Snetterton and that gives me confidence. Having said that, I’m not taking anything for granted because it’s a completely new race weekend and there are a lot of variables, including the weather.
“I’ve been reviewing my notes and footage from the previous rounds and dusted off the cobwebs during a very productive day of testing at Silverstone, so I’m comfortable with the car and my ability to deliver results. In fact, the Silverstone test allowed me to push the boundaries and make mistakes, and perfect skills and techniques I have wanted to work on for some time. I’m not going into the weekend expecting to win everything. Instead the goal is to maximise my points score and consolidate my championship lead by simply driving to the best of my ability.”
