Race winner Will Hunt already considers his 2020 season a success, and he goes into the final round of the Radical SR1 Cup at Donington Park (24 October) feeling composed and content.
The Sussex-domiciled racer has so far achieved a pole position, podium finish and a brace of victories during a super-successful 2020 campaign that has also yielded new partnerships with Demon Tweeks Motorsport and Abruzzi Racewear, and selection for the Motorsport UK Academy Squad.
In fact, the Motorsport UK ‘Squad’ programme continues to pick up pace, as Hunt will partake in a training course designed to build positive mental fitness habits before setting off to the East Midlands for the SR1 Cup title decider.
Motorsport UK’s guidance expands on what Hunt learnt while studying for his BTEC in Sports and Fitness Instructing at Brighton, Hove and Sussex Sixth Form (BHASVIC), as well as his ongoing efforts with Performance Elite’s Tom Archer.
The joint impact of these relationships on his physical fitness and mental approach to racing has been profound and is reflected in the results achieved during the condensed 2020 season, but Hunt is once again managing his expectations for the last leg of the Radical SR1 Cup at Donington Park – a track that has never been kind to him.
The aim is to simply round-off the year with solid, representative results and avoid all thoughts about championship connotations, and Hunt said: “I feel very composed ahead of the final round of the 2020 Radical SR1 Cup at Donington Park. I’ve proven I’m capable of winning back-to-back races and that my Oulton Park success wasn’t a fluke, and I already consider this championship a great success.
“To end the year with podiums would be like a title win because things have never gone my way at Donington Park. I’m not superstitious and I’m certainly not going into this round with a defeatist attitude – by doing that, you’ve already lost. I’ll approach the weekend as if I’ve never raced at Donington Park before, applying what worked for me at Oulton Park and Brands Hatch. My refreshed approach has been very effective thus far, and as I’ve developed a lot since my last visit to Donington Park in 2019, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.”
