Sussex racer Will Hunt aiming to “be a nuisance” on maiden Brands Hatch GP outing

Will Hunt is in fine form entering Round 3 of the 2020 Radical SR1 Cup on the world-famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, where he hopes to make a nuisance of himself by troubling the title contenders (10 October).
Over the past 12 months, Hunt has made a raft of lifestyle changes to optimise his on and off-track abilities.
There has been a significant and visible improvement in his strength and fitness since linking up with Sports Conditioning Coach Tom Archer of Performance Elite, and he has also benefited from expert insight and guidance from his professional driver coach Charlie Hollings.
Selection for the Motorsport UK Academy Squad is a testament to Hunt’s dedication, and while prescribed events and one-on-one mentoring have been heavily restricted by the COVID-19 pandemic, the programme has still had a positive impact.
Hunt achieved a breakthrough win in view of the high-profile drivers, teams and automotive manufacturers from the British GT Championship at Oulton Park in August.
However, unwilling to rest on his laurels, the Abruzzi Racewear Brand Ambassador’s off-track efforts have only intensified in recent weeks, and countless training sessions, 500-plus laps on a simulator and a successful GT test with Ginetta mean the Sussex-domiciled racer is in good shape for his long-awaited maiden outing on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.
“I may have won last time out at Oulton Park, but I don’t feel any different and my expectations are the same as ever going to Brands Hatch,” said Hunt. “While my target isn’t to win the championship, I want to show I would be up for the title fight by being a nuisance at the front end of the field. I have a good track record on Brands Hatch’s short Indy circuit, but I’m delighted that I have an opportunity to compete on the full Grand Prix layout, on which so many legends have raced.
“I have spent hours on the simulator, completing more than 500 laps of the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, which feels a lot like Oulton Park, where I achieved my breakthrough win. My Scorpio Motorsport team has a lot of experience and is confident that what we did with the car at Oulton Park will also be effective at Brands Hatch. We have a lot of information and knowledge to call upon and we’re at a point where we’re working on the finer details to find small gains, so we’re in a great position.”
