STATEMENT: Pioneer79 Swimming Club COVID-19 update 02.06.20

02 June 2020 | adminleveridge

I’m bringing you a short update on what has been going on at Pioneer79 Swimming Club in recent weeks.

Again, a huge thank you from myself as Chair, but also on behalf of the coaches, teachers and lifeguards, for your continued support.

Since my last statement, we have had Olympic medallist Steve Parry talk to our members about striving through failures, as well as six-time World Champion and Strictly Come Dancing star Mark Foster, whose general message was “fly with the eagles, don’t peck with the hens”.

It was truly inspirational listening to these swimming legends, and it’s all thanks to Rob Greenwood, who has also been busy presenting to coaches across the country and guesting on the Poolside Pass podcast – you can listen to him talking all things swimming on the www.thepoolsidepass.com website or on Spotify.

We have seen Jake Reynolds and Mia Prickett as our Strava Champions, although a fantastic effort by Hannah Reynolds made her this week’s winner. It’s fantastic to see so many of our athletes and parents staying active and healthy during this period of restricted movement and social interaction.

Sadly, we’re still unable to confirm when swimming will resume, as we’re awaiting an announcement from Swim England, which is expected to issue guidance on a ‘Return to Swim’ policy on Monday 15 June.

Pioneer79’s voluntary fee reduction (50 per cent of the normal monthly rate) is still open to all, but a big thanks once again to all those who are able to continue paying the full amount.

As ever, please keep safe, keep active and keep winning.
